FASHION PLATE - MET GALA '16

Tuesday, May 03, 2016

So Met Gala happened recently. Now if you aren't aware of what Met Gala is, let me tell you that it is an annual fund raising event for Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York. It marks the opening of the annual fashion exhibit of the Costume Institute. Starting way back in 1948, this is the 70th Met Gala ever hosted.

The exhibition has a theme which inspires the dress code for the event.
With themes like Punk: Chaos to Confusion, Beyond Fashion and Impossible Conversations in the past, the theme this year had to be unique and challenging. "Manus X Machina- Fashion in an age of Technology"

Considered as the Oscars of the  fashion Industry, an invite to the Met Gala is a golden ticket for any designer or model. Also, I'd like to mention that a ticket to the event will cost you around $25000. That explains as to why only top fashion houses like Versace and Chanel purchase them.

Anna Wintour, the chief-editor of Vogue has been in-charge of this event for 21 years and Taylor Swift was one of the co-charges this year.

Fun fact : The celebs are paired with designers for the Gala and the designers make it a point to display their finest.

The Met Gala being one of the biggest fashion event of the year is always a spectacle.
Here are a few looks I loved from the recent event-

While Taylor Swift reminds me of 'Jenny Humphrey'  of Gossip Girl, Blake Lively tells us that she is still the 'It Girl'. I couldn't ignore how adorable Selena looks.

Keeping up with the Kardashian and the Jenners. They surely know how to steal the spot light. Notice Kanye's ripped jeans?

While Gigi and Zayn looked like they were 'back from the future', with the metal arms and knuckles. Alessandra went for a new type of 'bold and beautiful'.

What is a fashion event without some creativity, right? Whether it is Solange Knowles' dress or Lupita's hairdo, it is good as long as it stands out. Kate Hudson stood out for me.

Who knows it better than Lady Gaga, when it comes to stealing the show.

Zoe Saldana's gown itself was quite a show.

While singers like Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Madonna went all 'Dark Fantasy'.

Ciara's bling, Jourdan Dunn's metallic attire  and Queen B's latex screamed 'Perfection!'.

Finally, a light up ball gown worn by Claire Danes won the theme. Very Cinderalla-ish, she literally glowed at the Red Carpets.
